He has began a Good work

Last week I got a text from my friend and she asked me if I would lead our Prayer time on Sunday morning.

I was more than happy to!

A little background

My friend has gathered the women of our church together on Sunday mornings. We pray over the day, the teachers, the pastors and the message that is about to be spoken.

Now I am not a morning person but if it is important I will get up.

This is Sunday morning… and I have young kids… and a husband…

did I mention this is on Sunday morning???

It can get a little crazy.

So, when my friend said this was going to be on Sunday morning I didn’t think that I would be able to make it.

When prayer time first began I didn’t go. I didn’t think I could. But, then a (different) friend looked at me one morning and asked: “where have you been (at prayer time) ?”. I hung my head and told her my “excuse”. She gave me a suggestion and so I tried it.

Well, it has been my routine every Sunday morning and I make it to prayer time.

When I got the text asking me to lead I was more than happy to do it!

Last week I had the privilege of sharing my thoughts with my friends.

What I shared

I decided I wanted to share a verse with my friends

He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus – Philippians 1:6

This is a verse that has been sitting on my heart. It is a message that I keep hearing over and over again.

The week before pastor opened his sermon talking about how sometimes we are disconnected from situations and people because we have not walked through what they are.

I couldn’t help but look at where I am now sitting.

I am a mom of 3 kids with special needs.

There was a time I knew there were those with special needs. But I never knew anyone with special needs or anyone whose life was affected by special needs. I was disconnected from this world.

Now all my kids have special needs of some kind. This is my world now.

All That I Am

There is a song that quickly got onto my favorites list because of the message. There is a line that says

You let me be where I have been. So, I can be all that I am -Better For It, Riley Clemmons

These are her words but they echo a message found in scripture

“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” -Jeremiah 29:11

“And we know that in all things God works for good of those who love him” – Romans 8:28a

There was a day that I didn’t see any good in Grace having special needs. It was a broken painful place in my heart, I struggled here. Now all 3 of my kids have special needs.

This is a path that no one chooses but it’s where God has me.

I by no means have this all figured out. I’m still in the middle of raising kids. But I’m beginning to see sunbeams.

I am starting to see how good can come out of where I am.

I am no longer untouched by those who live with special needs, this is my path. I am a special needs mom.

I hope that can be a voice of encouragement to other moms most of all to the girl like me who has a child or children with special needs. I know it’s hard but let’s live out our faith together.

God wastes nothing.

What is it in your life that God can use to encourage someone in your path?

Enjoy Riley’s song!!!

Father, you know there have been times (I still have my days) that I can’t see why you’ve allowed things in my life. Days I ask “why?” and wish it would all go away. Help me to remember that nothing is wasted and you work everything for good. Everything isn’t good this is a broken world, but everything will be used for good in your hands for those who love you. I believe that you have begun a good work in me and that you are faithful and will complete it. Let me be one who encourages others along the way.

These things I pray in Jesus name, Amen

How encouraging to look on your family as a good work God has begun! Whether our children have special needs or not, they are good, and they are God’s work! This is giving me a lot of food for thought.

I love how you say that you are starting to see sunbeams! I agree that it can be difficult to connect sometimes when we haven’t walked their path. This post is so encouraging, thanks for the positive message!

Loved reading this! God makes no mistakes and I truly believe he gives special people the job of caring for children with special needs.. I have siblings with special needs and they are truly the best and sweetest people I know! Thanks for sharing!

Loved this post and the scripture that you chose to share. You are so right – “God wastes nothing.” Somethings it’s hard to understand, but it is when we loosen the grasp on trying to understand everything that we begin to rely on his Word and live by faith! Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful testimony of God you have! Today, I found that my path is being led by God and He has a special purpose for me. I know my divine purpose as a mother, but sometimes I wonder what my purpose is as a person. I don’t have any close friends except for my family. And even then, it’s not the same. He revealed to me today that He will guide me on my path, so long as I am willing to follow.

What a wonderful thought to really consider…and beyond recognizing good works you have done, what are you being called to do? What can you start that will carry on?

Right now, I am called to share my story, my life (many of my current blogs are things I am walking through right now), and sharing my faith through all of it. I want (feel called) to be a voice of encouragement.

One of the things I’ve been praying for is that what I invest my time into building will last beyond me. I’m not sure how yet… still praying about it. Maybe joining or building a team sometime in the future.

I love what you said here. It’s so powerful. I surely believe that God will purposefully put new/different situations in front of us that we know nothing about so we can grow through them.

I’ve always said that those who have special needs children must have an extraordinary amount of love and patience to give, because I know it can’t be easy to raise one, let alone 3 children, who have special needs.

I appreciate this post! Isn’t it interesting, that verses pop up as themes when we need them? This year, it’s constantly been John 10:10…it started coming around about a year into battling depression, and hasn’t left since. Verses can be such strength sometimes, as evidenced by your account too! 🙂

Glad this was a blessing to you.
And yes!!! Sometimes it is the same message and verse over and over.

I jokingly say that God is making sure I am paying attention.

I have a friend who often reminds me that “He is with you”
Not because I don’t know because I need to focus here. Most of all when it’s a hard day. I need to know this with my heart not just my mind.

This is a great post. I love how genuine you are! We are in the midst of a change that we feel is from God, but not sure how that looks and not something we want. This is encouragement to remember that He will take care of us, He is our provider, and He wants the best for us. Thanks!

This post touched me, especially this line: “I hope that can be a voice of encouragement to other moms most of all to the girl like me who has a child or children with special needs. I know it’s hard but let’s live out our faith together. God wastes nothing.” May you find this community, sister, because they need you as much as you need them. We all need encouragement from a loving community. Blessings to you!

“God wastes nothing”. So true! Every experience that He allows is for His purpose and His glory! What an encouragement you must be to other mamas with special needs kids. They are so beautiful and God has a specific plan for their lives. Well done mama. Continue to lean on God, He will never let you down.
